SUMMER IN SCANDINAVIA 2010
Our first stop was Bergen, with trolls.
Bryggen...
...and a concert at Troldsalen, next to Edvart Grieg's Trolhaugen.
Then came fjord cruises...
...and picturesque trains rides.
In Gudvangen we watched Vikings do whatever Vikings do.
| play flutes write with a quill pen...
...or hang out around a camp fire.
Roxie was quite comfortable.
...which was mostly about Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Munch...
...but included Roxie posing in style in front of the new Opera...
...and an evening cruise on an old sailing ship,
complete with opera and as much shrimp as you could eat.
In Sweden we spent a few days relaxing in the small village of Örnafälla.
The potato cellar behind my old home looked exactly as I remembered it...
...and evenings walks were pure magic.
From quiet Örnafälla to busy Nyhavn - five minutes from the hotel.
Five minutes in the other direction, and you could watch the changing of the guards at Kungens Nytorv
And across the water was the Copenhagen Opera.
First we indulged in it at Custom House, near the hotel.
Then we found out about Café Sorgenfri, a true classic in the matter of smørrebrød.
So that's where we went on our last Scandinavian evening in the summer of 2010.
